Mike attended Lake Braddock its first two years of operation and is proud to say he was a charter member of the Lake Braddock orchestra during his 8th and 9th grade years. He was and still is a viola player. Mike says “the rich cultural environment of the Northern Virginia area and the support of the Fairfax County Public Schools were instrumental in his success as a musician”. His biggest memory of orchestra was the spring concert of 1975 when the director, Lois Wolf, asked Mike if he would play Teleman’s Concerto with the orchestra accompanying him. That same year he moved with his family to England where he graduated high school from the Department of Defense School located there. He went on to attend the United States Naval Academy singing in the Men's Glee Club among other activities. He graduated and spent 23 years in the Marine Corps as an artillery officer taking his viola to every duty station. He retired in 2006 and settled in Stafford County, Virginia. Mike has played with the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra and would be the first person to say that "once music is in you, it is for life". Mike says "LBSS was critical for me in this regard and the fond memories of the orchestra room, stage, and traveling are great ones that I shall never forget".
